Built Your Own PC: A Step By Step Guide

Time to install the drives. Removing the drive bay cover is really easy.  Just reach in from behind the case and ram your hand though. The cover will pop right out. For this system I need to remove one 5.25" bay cover and one 3.25" floppy cover. Now not all cases are like this. Please check your case before ramming.

Before installing the drives, you will have to set them up either as a slave or master. This is a really simple layout with just a hard drive and a DVD ROM. I set the hard drive as the master and the DVD as the slave. Consult the owners manual to find which pins goes where to get your settings.

Now slide in the DVD and floppy drive in place. The hard drive has to be installed from the back of the case. The L&C case has a spot for it directly under the floppy drive.

Make sure you screw down both sides evenly. This is where your workmanship will show. Nothing makes a computer look better than perfectly lined up and flushed drives.
