2001 CES Mobile Multimedia

Every year all the big car audio brands come together at the International CES to show off their latest and greatest stuff. The hottest item for this year seems to be mobile multimedia. No matter how you look at it, expensive, stupid or dangerous, it has hit the car audio industry with a huge bang. It seems like if you didn't have a TV in your ride you were nobody.  Just having one screen isn't enough anymore and the size of the screens have increased.

This Lexus LX470 from Rosen is very showy. Two huge monitors for the rear passenger allow them to play video games with force feedback steering wheels. Two motorized 18" LCD screens out back for the days at the park and of course the driver was not forgotten. There is a little 7" screen up front. I tried out the game in the back seat and I can see why families would love this for the kids. I played the game for what seem like 2 minutes but was actually 10 minutes. Maybe having a TV in a car isn't so dumb after all. hmmm.
