The Tech Zone Does Comdex

Witten: 11/18/2000
Writtn by: Moto

It's that time of the year again. The time when the hardware world heads to Las Vegas for the yearly event known as Comdex. This year marks the 2nd The Tech Zone has attended Comdex, so we kinda know our way around. Joining us for this yearly trek were the boys from Future Looks, PC Extremes and Neoseeker. It was a blast hanging out with them.

We landed in Las Vegas at noon Sunday the 12th to be greeted by our waiting rides. I always say if you're going to cruise around Las Vegas, do it first class. And we did just that with a couple of Hummers supplied by Sigaba. All I can say is it sure beats the media bus. :)

Our plans was to check into our hotel then head over to the MGM Grand to get some tickets for the Bill Gates keynote that evening. The only problem was tickets went up for grabs at 8AM and we didn't get there till 2PM. As a results, all 18,000 tickets for Bill were sold out and the only tickets left were for close circuit TV in one of the ball rooms. We decided we would rather see Bill live than on TV so we pass on those tickets and Bill all together. If you want to know what Bill had to say, you're not going to find it here. :)

Since we couldn't see Bill, we decided to take a walk up the Las Vegas strip and take some nice pics of the great hotels. At 5PM we went to the penthouse of the Monte Carlo to attend the Best3C party. I took a few good pics of Vegas at night from the penthouse.

After the Best3C party we went back to our hotel to get change. Then it was off in the Hummer to the Harley Davidson cafe for the nVidia party. nVidia put on more than a great party. They used the Comdex party to show off their new GeForce 2 Go, the world's first mobile GPU. nVidia showed off two Toshiba notebooks equipped with mobile versions of the GeForce 256 GPU. The demos were something to behold and it looks like the dream of using your notebook at a LAN party is about to come true. Look for the nVidia GeForce 2 Go in Toshiba notebooks in Q1 2001.

After the press conference, everyone kicked back and enjoy some great food, drinks and taking our pics with a few of the nVidia babes working the room.. nVidia gave everyone a nice gift pack and cigars! I think they're trying to make us like them. Lucky we can't be bought. :)

That was just day one. Let's see the rest of the week!
