Overclocking Case Project II

The Blowholes

Pay attention to this because this is how I am going to cut every hole. But before, remove everything that is in your case. Strip that sucker down because during the cutting process little bits of metal fly all over and last thing you want is an expensive component short circuiting. Here we go!

* Take your fan grill and put it over the area you would like to make your hole and outline the most outside ring with a pencil. Go over the marking with a permanent marker (when you are cutting dust goes everywhere and it's hard to see). Then also mark the area where the screws will go.

* Using your Dremel with cutting wheel go over the area you marked before lightly. Do not apply too much pressure but only enough so that you will see the fresh metal coming up. Do this all the way around until you have an idea of what your hole will look like.

* After you have examined your 1st run over the marking if you are happy with it take your Dremel tool and go over and cut all the way through. Since you can't really keep going in a circle with the Dremel take small straight cuts so its kind of like a 50 sided figure. (of course you don't have to make 50 small cuts but you get the idea)

* After your hole is complete you have to smooth it out. For this we use the Dremel with its sanding wheel. This will also get rid of the sides that your to be circle might have.

* After your hole is totally complete just use the drill bits to make the holes that you previously marked.

The Plexiglas

To make the holes on the Plexiglas just repeat the procedure for the metal. Only difference is that you are cutting plastic which melts, PLEASE use a lower speed with the Dremel and take your time. The plastic gets very hot very quick and it has a tendency to fly around while you are cutting, this is where the gloves come in -you have no idea how many fingertips I have burned :(

To make sure you get a size that will fit the side of your case measure the dimensions of your side panel, when you go down to your hardware store tell them you want it at a specific size and they will cut it for you.

For attaching the Plexiglas to the side panel line it up and measure with your ruler to make sure its straight. Take your drill and start drilling into the Plexiglas, keep going until you hit metal enough that it leaves a mark. Do the top 2 holes or bottom first so that you can line them up with the bottom or top. Just take the Plexiglas off and start drilling into the case's side panel. Then attach using screws..
