Building a LAN Party System Part 1

Now you might be thinking "Only two case fans for an 825Mhz system? Doesn't seem like Moto." The truth is that's all it needs and if you don't believe me, this next photo should make you a believer.

The finished system is every bit as fast as Project 850. With the GeForce DDR running at 150/200, LAN 825 is able to run Quake 3 at 48fps at 1600x1200x16 bit color. Here is the CPU benchmark from Systoft 99:

If you're interested is creating a LAN 825, here is the list of main equipment I used:

  • Enlight EN7237 ATX Case

  • Abit VT6X4

  • Corsair PC-133 SDRAM

  • Slot 1 PIII-550E

  • Global Win VOS32 cooler

  • Creative Annihilator Pro

  • Mellenger Video Card Cooling Kit

LAN 825 can be easily put together for less than $1,000. I didn't go with any fancy sound card or speaker systems because I use head phones for LAN parties. Add in a nice 17" monitor and you got yourself one screaming system.

Fast is never fast enough however.  I think I will pick up a Slot 1 P3-600E tomorrow and see if I can get 900Mhz out of it. Stay tuned.
