Those of you who read the review on the AMK-2X60 cooler will remember that it ran a lot cooler after we removed the backplate off our P3-450. We saw an average 5C temperature drop after the backplate was trashed. This is because the backplate of the P3 traps heat.

  Highest Reading Average Reading
AMK-2X60 Stock 39.8C 39.3C
AMK-2X60 No Backplate 35.2C 35.0C
AMK-2X60 With Rear Fan & No Backplate 34.8C 33.6C

The above were the results we got with our AMK-2X60 cooler on the P3-450 running at 580Mhz. There are many ways to mount your P3 without the backplate. We're going to show you three methods. No one way is better than the next. Some require more work than others but the end results will be the same. You will see a nice drop in the operating temperature of your P3 once that backplate is toasted.

Our thanks goes out to Andrew over at AMK Services for letting us destroy one of his coolers.  That was great fun. Nothing like taking a hammer to a brand new P3 cooler. :-)

On to the first method. The Tech Ties!
