The Games Men Play

Men. Children. Is there really much difference in those two
terms? When it comes to playing games, the
answer is a resounding no. This fact is not,
necessarily, a bad thing. It, merely, points
out that a lucky few of you never completely grow up.
Taxes? Mortgages? Fifty-hour work weeks? Ppfpfffff
.I say, give them Quake!
I vividly remember a brief point in time when
Atari was the focal point of my whole existence (yes, I am revealing my age here). I could play Pac Man for hours at a time without
ever growing tired of the monotone resonance emanating from the hungry little yellow ball
I was controlling around the same old screen time after time after time. And, of course, my Space Invader skills were
completely unequaled. Donkey Kong? I was the queen.
When Nintendos Mario Brothers arrived on the scene, the
difference in graphics, sound, and control amazed me, a former game guru. Though I soon became quite adept at that, as
well, it was not long before I realized I was losing ground fast in the field of computer
games....ground which I never regained.
Today, PC games go far beyond anything I ever
imagined so many
I mean only a few years ago; however, it was not until I looked into
the myriad of game sites that I realized how extensive the whole phenomenon really is. Online game magazines, download sites, and
plentiful articles of review all keep you hooked on what appears to be a great distraction
from the drudges of everyday life. Only there
can you become the Bond
James Bond youve always dreamed of being. Only there can you jump headfirst into the role of
MechWarrior, Kingpin, Tomb Raider, and The Phantom Menace.
Well, I say go for it! Forget
the work week, forget the overdue Visa bill (note to Visa:
I never forget my bill
it is always paid on time and in an
amount above the minimum due). Just chuck it
all and head for the ol PC that will provide hours of pleasure. That is, of course, after those of you who
have wives and children have prioritized your time and given them all the attention they
could possibly need. ;)
Following is a list of sites that some of you may
already know by heart; but, hopefully, there will be something in this lineup that you
have yet to examine. If not, hey
I
tried. ;) Heres hoping you have a great
week.
