The Tech
Zone Vs. Microsoft

No talking during class!
After breakfast, we were ushered into the
Chinook room. The room was setup with 35 workstations, one for
each of us. It reminded me a lot of computer science classes, only
Microsoft had much more powerful computers.

Here's a picture of my workstation. MS gave
everyone a lot of toys to play with, including not one but two
Pocket PCs! There was also a Pocket PC modem and LAN interface
card, Sony head phone, software, 128Meg compact flash memory card
and a bunch of other stuff. All in all I made off with an estimated
$2,000 of loot.
We spent the first morning getting to know the
Pocket PC. Now I have never own a Pocket PC or any Palm device but
I must admit that this can be one helpful tool for my business.
The most impressive thing I like about it is the way it syncs with
my MS Outlook. Everything I enter into Outlook is also entered
into the Pocket PC if it's connected to the comp.

Rob and I were the only two without a Palm.
During the lunch break, Rob from Geek.com
and myself decided to test out our workstations by playing
some Quake 3. I don't know what kind of connection Microsoft has
but Rob and I were able to download the full Quake 3 demo (47.7
Megs) in about five minutes! The only problem was our IBM
computers didn't have GeForce video cards so we had to make do with
just 640x480 gaming *yuk*. You can imagine the looks on the other
attendees faces when they saw two hardware guys fragging each
other while they're talking about boring Palms. The MS people
thought it was pretty funny.
