Online Shopping
(Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the web.)
I was getting a really bad feeling about this, the rep that answered my
e-mail didn't give their name, and the e-mail had a tone of "stop bothering us,
filthy customer." I was worried that I was being taken for a ride on the "bone
da customer" mobile, and I didn't like it.
I went to photo.net, a site I discovered the next day. It was full of a wealth of
information, and I enjoy it a great deal. I went to their "where to buy a
camera" section, and my jaw dropped when they listed Smile Photo Video, by name,
under a section titled "I want to get screwed" (their words, not mine).

uh-oh.
I thought, maybe this was a fluke, maybe the author was a commie bastard
who wanted to put smile out of business. Then, I checked out the "neighbor to
neighbor" photo site reviews, where people can share their experiences with photo
companies. There, my worst fears were laid out.

The people with good things to say about Smile were few and far
between.
Now, I was in a bit of a tizzy. I imagined some bums shoving a few rocks
in a package and mailing it off, or the package being run over, or the camera arriving,
but all battered and broken. I e-mailed them asking for the UPS GroundTrac number. At
least I could watch it snake its way through the US.

The UPS GroundTrac feature lets you watch your package creep ever so slowly across the US.
I was worried sick. I had visions of trying to dispute the charges on the
credit card, and being haunted by 500% restocking fees, and secret ninja drop squads being
dispatched to eliminate the unhappy customer. Of course, all my friends on IRC were there
to help me out, I do have the bestest of friends.

I got nothing but support in my hour of need from my friends
I began to fidget, as the day my package was scheduled to arrive grew
close, I vowed to not sleep until my package was cradled in my loving arms. I even drew up
a map so all my buddies online could track my package's progress with me.

This map was a big hit online.
