TNT2 Ultra Overclocking Project

tntclk.jpg (28153 bytes)

There are many ways to overclock a TNT card. My preferred way is to use a program call TNTCLK available from The Tech Zone download page.

TNTCLK is very small program written by Chris Groenveld. The thing I like about the program is that it allows you to modify the clock settings of any RIVA TNT/TNT2 based board WITHOUT having to reboot your system. You can adjust the core speed from 100 to 200Mhz and memory speed from 100 to 250Mhz. You can also have your settings apply on startup. No need to set the speed every time you bootup.

The stock speed of the Asus 3800 is 150/183. I began by increasing that to 175/200. This is the speed of the fastest TNT2 Ultra card on the market. It ran at this speed without any problems.

Right now I have the card running at the same speed as my Viper Ultra, 185/243. I'm pretty sure it can go higher but I'm going to let it run at this speed for a few days before I push it further. Speed wise, it's the same as the Viper. This is no suspires considering I'm using the same reference drivers for both cards. Look for a complete review of the Asus 3800 soon.

Total cost of this little project is about $50US plus the cost of the Asus V3800. Is it worth it? Judging by the ear to ear grin I get when I show this card to friends, I would have to say "Oh YA Baby!!!" :-)
