Making a Water Cool Computer

Putting it together

The pic on the left shows the water block before mounting and also the copper shim for cooling L2 cache. The one on the right is after installation on the CPU. (I used thermal paste from Radio Shack -- nothing special.)

I used sliding glass window locks clamped to the opening of the case with zip ties around the tubing to hold the CPU in place.

This is my attempt at making an in-line water chiller with a panaflow orb and a couple of 30mm Peltiers cooling a separate water block. Probably a waste of time. Seems to only be good for a couple of degrees. Maybe more with the air conditioner on.

Another thing I really wanted was a way to turn the pump off and on automatically with the PC, so what I came up with was a 12Volt relay wired into a triple tap extension cord. I mounted the relay in a Radio Shack project box.

The grey wire coming out of the left side of the box is hooked into the 12V power supply of the PC so when the PC is turned on it switches on the pump and secondary power supply at the same time.

Next page: What did I gain from all this?
