Windows XP
Sneak Peek
What else is there? Well there's probably alot more than I can
cover in this one web article, but here are a few feature
highlights...
The Home Networking Wizard has been enhanced, and now includes a
basic personal Firewall setup. This is a great idea, especially
considering that Microsoft is officially dropping support of
NetBEUI, the non-routable (i.e. not hackable by the script
kiddies) protocol I usually prefer to use for file and print
sharing, and defaulting to using TCP/IP for this purpose.
Remote Desktop Sharing is an exciting feature! Based on Windows
existing Terminal Services, this allows what it says, remotely
accessing your desktop securely. Ideal for accessing your system
on the road, or for diagnosing your idiot friends who screw up
their PC, and want you to "fix" it for them over the
phone. Now you can just tell em to share, sit back, and shut up
while you unscrew their world for them. :):)
Not exactly a new feature, but an expanded list of Performance
related options for the GUI can be found here, and turned off or
on at will.
What else? There are still quite a few interesting additions to
the OS that deserve mention.
