Project 620: Benchmarks
This is what you all want to know. How fast is this
thing? To find out I ran some benchmarks using Quake 2, Unreal and 3D Mark 99 Max. All
tests were ran 3 times and the average score is shown.
The drivers used for the Viper 770 Ultra were the
NVIDIA 2.03 reference drivers. Scores shown are with the card running at 185Mhz core and
243Mhz memory. Vsync was turned off. No tweaks or special cfg files were used. 3D Mark 99
Max was ran at 800x600, 16 bit color, 16 bit Z-Buffer, Triple Frame Buffer. Unreal was ran
using the new 2.25 patch.

The true power of Project 620 is shown in the 3D Mark 99 Max score.
A score 6297 is truly great, as is the CPU Mark score of 9662. 3D Mark 99 takes advantage
of SSE instruction set of the Pentium 3. I can't wait to try SSE enhanced games. Hopefully
the next release of Quake 3 test will come with support for SSE.
Even without SSE support, Quake 3 test is totally playable at
1024x768x32 bit with texture set to maximum. This setting would bring most systems to
their knees. On Project 620, it was totally enjoyable and made everyone who play Quake 3
on it drool!
This is by no means the end of this project. I will continue to
improve it. The next upgrade will be a bigger monitor. With a 32 meg TNT2 on board, I find
myself running games at a much higher resolutions than I normally run. Also I have a
Pentium III-550 coming in. Can you say Project 682? :-)
