High Tech Sound

We decided to take a little break from computers today and attend an IASCA sound off. What is a sound off you ask? It's a little competition to see who has the best car audio system. The technology and planning that goes into the creation of these sound machines are really amazing. I will do an article on the construction of one of these vehicles in a future article but for now, here are some of the sound system for you to wow over.

This yellow Blazer is The Tech Zone's entry. It wasn't really finished but we entered it anyway. The vehicle started out life as a 4X4 Chevy. It has since been slammed six inches. There are no door handles. The doors open and close by remote. Out back, the entire rear bed was cut open to house the two huge Kicker amps. The side was rebuild to house the sub woofers. Up front are custom kick panel pods for the midrange and tweeter. Rounding out the system is a multi-media system that includes a TV and VCR. Overclock P3 system is next on the install list.

This Grand National took the concept of front stage to the extreme. The stock dash was ripped out and a new one installed. The entire system is power by just five speakers, all mounted up front. The instrument panel was moved to an overhead pod. This car sounds really good and won its power class.

This 300ZX won best of show. Among its install tricks are EQ mounted flushed with the floor and cross overs in the rear side panels. The subs are mounted on a mirror surface. This way you can see your hair move when you look down on it. :)

This Ford Focus uses four square Kicker sub woofers to really pound out the bass. Up front are custom made kick panel pods and video display. There is a matching video display at the rear.

Now this is being creative! What looks like a normal back seat really houses a power distribution system. Other unique touches in this Honda Civic include a 30 band EQ sunk into the floor up front. You can also see the custom kick panel pod which house an 8 inch woofer and 1 inch tweeter.

It's amazing the amount of creativity which goes into the trunk. Mind you now, you really can't use it for storing anything but it sure looks good! :)
