In the market of solid state MP3 players, storage space, size, and portability are the name of the game. Size and portability have always been and advantage for solid state players (read: no moving parts). When compared to the bigger brother hard drive and CD based MP3 player, as well as standard CD players, I would say solid state players have size and portability down pat. So what about storage?
Up until now, storage sizes on solid state MP3 players have left many of us wanting. 64MB players are ok, 32MB are tolerable, and I feel sorry for you if you've EVER been stuck with a 16MB player. This also describes another problem, the shear number of MP3 players (good and crap) on the market. Luckily Samsung has always been there, and they have an MP3 player for everybody.
Today we're looking at the ultra-small, ultra-portable YP-30SH YEPP. Measuring no bigger than the average pager (44mm W x 65mm H x 15mm D to be exact), this little guy packs a lot of features into a very small package. The main feature set is shown here,
- MP3 playback
- 128MB built-in flash memory
- Voice Recording
- Blue Backlight LCD display
- USB support
- 4-mode equalizer
- Bass Booster
- Belt clip, Arm band, & Neck Strap
Pay attention to that 128MB of built in memory, because that will be the big point of this review, how many songs this little guy can hold. Can you say approximately 2 hours worth of tunes? And that's not by using 64 Kbps sound like crud MP3s, that using the standard MP3 bitrate that most people download, which is 128 Kbps (more calculations on exactly how much this thing can hold later).
On with the review...
