There are three sure things in life; death, taxes and the raising of CPU speeds. Moore's Law is alive and well at Intel. In just 2 short months after the introduction of the 800FSB P4 3.0 Intel has up the clock speed of their top of line processor and created the P4 3.2.
With the exception of the 200MHz increase in clock speed, the new Intel processor isn't new at all. There are zero new features. This seems to point to the fact that the 3.2 may be the last of the current P4 lineup. The word on the street is Intel has a new weapon waiting in the wings; the 9 micron "Prescott" Pentium 4. But that is for another day.
Today we're going to run Intel's 3.2 though our benchmarks and see how it compares with their last top of the line processor, the 3.0. To take full advantage of the new 800MHz front side bus, you will need a motherboard with a chipset that supports it. Currently there are two; the Springdale and the Canterwood chipset. Since we reviewed the last 3.0 with a Canterwood chipset motherboard, we will do the same thing with the 3.2.
Let's get it on!
