Building a computer...

I made a post about 3 weeks ago (or so) asking if anyone knew where i could find spec for a mobo. You were all a great help with that, so I'm hoping you can help me with this.

I am using that same motherboard (an intel AL440LX) to build a computer for my brother for christmas. I have everything mounted in and all, hooked up, etc, but when I turn it on, the screen hangs at one that says 'Motherboard manufactured by Intel corporation' for a bit, the continues. Then it stops after detecting the mouse, keyboard, and 'fixed disk' and says Error - 02B2 Incorrect Drive A type - run setup. Press F2 to setup

If I run setup, it says I have a 1.44 Floppy (which is right), and does the same thing when I restart.

Does anyone know why this would happen?

intel AL440Lx Mobo, ATI mach64 gt video card, generic keyboard and mouse. Old HD (2.1G) that has win95 installed (which is a problem on its own, I can't get to a dos prompt to format it)

ZOWIE!! not to sound a jerk, but if ya have the old ribbon cable with dual connectors, you have to make sure that the connector with the crossed wire is the one connected to the floppy. this is the primary. make sure also that boot-up floppy seek is enabled, and report no floppy is disabled. if it's an old power supply, make sure you're gettin' the voltage. all ya need there is a 12v and 5v lamp. actually, the 12v lamp should glow yellow-orange on the 5v bus. enough to tell. if its an old 5 1/4 drive.. ooops.. and some were 1.2, not 1.44 hope it's a newer floppy. if ya have another, try installing that, to see if the floppy is fried. also, a simple cable swap may be in order. potential work-around is to go to advanced options, and boot from "c" only, if it'll do it??

Cables are fine...

The cables are all connected fine, as far as I can see. The PS is a 250 Watt, so there should be no problem there either. When I turn on the computer, the led on the floppy stays lit, won't go out. I have gotten past the Hd problem, I have formatted and all is good there, but without the floppy, I can't install win98 like I want to. I am going to try to switch the floppy if I can find one in my pile of spare parts, but I don't know if it will make a difference. Why would the LED stay lit like that? Any ideas?

If the floppy light stays on there is a good chance the cable is backwards. You can't trust the key on the cable. change the cable around and try. You will not hurt anything.

That worked...

That did it for the floppy, but now the system won't recognize my Boot disk - it says Disk I/O Error. I put it in my comp, and it said it's not formatted. I did format it before I made the boot disk, but I'm formatting it again. Hopefully it will work this time.

Did you format the disk with a windows XP computer. Cause me i have problems with disk that have been formated with windows XP. Some disk i can't reconnized in windows XP because they where formatted with Win9x and some don't work in Win9X machines because they where formatted with Windows XP. But when i put them in the original computer that formatted them, then i have no problem ... so i know that disk works.

It might by as simple as copying the system to the hard drive. Boot to the Operating System installation CD and type "sys C:" to make sure this is a bootable disk.

I have everything installed now, and after a few minor problems that I have solved, most stuff is going well. What want to do now is to update my bios so that it will support my processor properly. I have the bios files, butit won't let me flash it because I have 'installed memory managers'. This is a first for me, and I need a little help. Any suggestions?
