Hi8 to Comp question

I have a Hi8 Sony Handycam. I'm wondering if theres a way to get video from it to my computer. Incidently I was thinking of buying an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and noticed that it has an S-Vid connection on it. My cam also has an S-Vid connection. Will the video transfer this way. If not any other ideas? I'm learning as I go with the comps but I'm a total noob to the video editing. Thanks.

the S-video on that card (and most every other card) is out only. cards that have ViVo in the name or ATI all in wonder cards have video in, or you could get a capture card, there are some that are USB if you'd perfer that

If you can find someone to help you with a Digital-8 Sony HandiCam that you can use to transfer the video to a PC with Firewire. The Digital 8s can play Hi8 tapes with no problem. If not any All in wonder cards use composite in that will work. S-video in will get better but you still need to import the audio with the composite.
I have a Sony Digital 8 camcorder that plays the high8 with now problems, too bad you are not closer or I could help you out.

Probably just find a cheap PCI capture card with the right connections and see if that works.
