AMK PC20-333333 Case Review

I tested the PC20-333333 by installing my personal system inside. The components consist of the following:

  • Abit VP6 motherboard
  • Two Intel PIII at 1000Mhz
  • 1,000 Megs Micron PC-133 SDRAM
  • 64 Megs Creative GTS Ultra
  • Sound Blast Live! Value
  • D Link 10/100 NIC
  • Yamaha 16/10/40 CD Writer
  • Two 30 Gig IBM ATA100 Hard Drives in RAID 0
  • A no name floppy drive
  • Windows 2000 Professional

Besides the good looks, the biggest thing that stands out about the PC20 is the fit and finish. It's Lexus quality! Every panel fits like a glove. There are no unbroken lines anywhere. The silver paint is free of orange peel and the side panels needs zero effort to remove. It just slide off soooo easy!

Performance from the case was great. Every fan serves a purpose. The two fans at the front brings in the cold air and keeps my twin hard drives cool. The side panel fans are aimed right at the CPUs and video card. The exhaust fans does a great job of getting rid of the heat.

When all the fans are working, the case temp was never more than 5C above the room temp no matter what application was running. All those spinning fans does come at the expense of noise however. You will hear the constant hum of six high power fans spinning away. You can control the speed of the hard drive fans and AMK does sell controllers to turn the other fans on and off if the noise bothers you.

Like all AMK cases, the PC20  is fully customizable. Most owners will be happy with the standard PC20-333 which sells for $140 without a power supply but they are free to add as many fans as their heart and wallet can handle. If you intend to use the bottom drive mounts makes sure your power supply has connectors that can reach down there. Most stand power supply won't.

The PC20 is another winner from AMK Services. The first company to sell overclocker's case is still the best out there. The stainless steel carrying handle matches perfectly with the silver paint. If you don't like silver, you can get the PC20 in black. Either way, you're getting one of the best looking and best performing case on the market.
