Introduction:

Overkill?  Maybe… But, isn’t it better to have a little bit “too much” than to get caught with your pants down?  That was definitely the case with the 300-watt power supply that I had in my case.  Don’t get me wrong… A 300-watt power supply should be plenty of juice for any normal person.  I had thought so when I upgraded to mine from the stock 250-watt power supply that came with my InWin Q500 full tower case.  But, when I could literally hear my fans start to fade out when I had some serious disk access going I knew that I had underestimated.

I decided that I would never again fall short in the power department.  Drastic situations require drastic measures.  So I started looking around for a power supply in the 400 – 450 watt range.  AMK Services made my quest for power a short, but sweet journey.  Everything I needed in a power supply for the price of an above average 300 watt power supply.  Wow!   You still may be asking, “Why such a huge power supply?” I’ve already tried to rationalize it above… If that’s still not good enough I’ll keep it simple.  As overclockers we’re extremists.   By nature we like excess.  I personally don’t know of too many “conservative” overclockers unless you’re a “closet overclocker.”  That’s a whole different article.  Anyway…

Features and Specifications:

Something that I assumed was that if you had a larger capacity power supply that you would:

How about none of the above?  That’s right.   My misconceptions were dashed immediately when I opened the box.  The disappointment was more than obvious as I said, “Huh!? This looks just like my other power supply!”  I was expecting something likened to what Dr. Frankenstein used to bring the monster to life… “It’s alive!”  Not so.
