Wind Tunnel Plus Case Review
Our first impression of the Wind Tunnel Plus after everything was put together was that this case is a nice kit, but could be more functional. Performance was about as good as the Cyclone 5000. Case temp was about 7 to 10C above the room temp. Case temp did not increase when we removed the front fan. However the noise level went down with that fan gone. The 92mm fans are quite noisy but you'd expect that from any overclocker's case.
Functionally, the case does its job but the "tweaker" in us kept hoping for more. Next to the phone number case from AMK, the Wind Tunnel Plus is more expensive, has less fans, lacks features like screwless entry and drive rails. The design could use some improvements. There are no air holes on the face, making the front intake fan kinda useless. Instead of having the front fan, better performance would have been had if that fan was used as a chimney fan instead.
With a normal sales price of $119.95, the Wind Tunnel Plus doesn't stand up very good against the 292-3333 from AMK Services. However, this doesn't mean you should not consider the Wind Tunnel Plus. Performance is good and the construction of the kit and the case is first rate. Looks is a personal preference, but a few staff members like the look of the Wind Tunnel over the AMK model. If you're someone who wants to get a "feel" for what it's like to put your own overclocker's case together, then the Wind Tunnel Plus from the Cooler Guys is worth checking out.
