Alpha FC-PAL35T & POP66T Cooler Review

P4100006.jpg (22008 bytes)

PEP66T

The PEP66T is the FIN heatsink and the more impressive looking of the two coolers. It looks like a chopped down Alpha P125. There are a total of 88 fins to get rid of the heat. This cooler looks bigger than the PIN Alpha but because the PIN Alpha packs so many pins the surface area of both heastsinks is most likely the same.

The clip used on these new Coppermine coolers is much better than what Alpha used to give. These new clips are stronger and hold the heatsink to the CPU much tighter.

Here you can see how the PIN Alpha mounts onto the slotket. In a way, this is very much like a mini version of the Alpha P125. Because the fan is on top of the cooler, you shouldn't have problems clearing your motherboard DIMM slots. However, the pins were so long they still block off one DIMM slot on our Tyan motherboard. That's still better than blocking off two. The FIN Alpha cleared all the DIMM slots in the BE6 and BX6-II.
