Alpha PAL6035 Cooler Review

To test the Alpha PAL6035 I used it on a Pentium III 700 provided by Overclock Warehouse. There is a temp probe placed near the CPU core. The temp probe sends its info to the DigitalDoc2 which allows me to monitor the CPU temp on the fly. AMK Services sells the PAL6035 with a standard 26CFM YS Tech fan. For those wishing for more performance you can get the cooler with a 38CFM Data 60 fan for $10 more. Beware however. The Data 60 is very very loud. I tested the PAL6045 with the standard fan.
The Alpha PAL6035 with YS Tech fan had no problems installing on the Abit BX133-RAID motherboard. However, keep in mind that if you are putting this cooler on a Slot 1 motherboard using a Slotket, the cooler may end up blocking off some DIMM slots. Also make sure you securely mount it if you're using a Slotket as this is one heavy cooler.
The performance of the PAL6035 is superb. I was able to overclock the PIII-700 all the way to 1008Mhz (143Mhz bus) and it even worked at 1050Mhz as long as you don't fire up any 3D games or run any 3D benchmarks. At 1008Mhz, temp reading from the DigitalDoc2 was just 30 to 31C after half an hour of Prime 95 and Unreal test loops. Performance of the PAL6035 was the same with the fan blowing in or sucking out. I was not able to get a reading from a stock Intel cooler because the stock cooler wouldn't allow the Pentium III to run at 1008Mhz. I did get some reading from the stock Intel cooler at the stock speed of 700Mhz and they were HIGHER than the PIII with Alpha PAL6035 running at 1008Mhz!
Alpha has done a great job on the new PAL6035. Whether you have an Intel Coppermine of an AMD Thunderbrid processor, the PAL6035 will get the most out of it. Priced at $34US from AMK Services, the PAL6035 are among the more expensive coolers on the market but its high price is justify by its performance.
