Globalwin VGS08H Slot 1 Heatsink Review

Globalwin VGS08H Pentium 3/ Slot 1 Heatsink
Two Down and Three to Go!

Performance:

Standard disclaimer again... This info is provided for those of you not fortunate enough to have read my stellar review of the Golden Orb yesterday!  Sorry for the repetition (Plus I'd like to get a few unscrupulous plugs in!):

"I have a new test bed since my last review where I had to list the components.  I didn't list all the vendors I received the stuff from because I haven't gotten permission to post a link yet.  It took a little while for me to get used to the transition from Intel BX to VIA 133a.  But, I'm getting used to it as I learn the VIA quirks and tweak accordingly.  I'm very pleased with the 600e I'm using now.  I've been able to crank this puppy up to 996mhz with full stability (of course my 78w peltier kit, memory and mobo has a lot to do with that, too).  I won't get into the details right now, that's another article.  But, my buddy Ned at Proton Computers really sent me a sweet CPU even though he said it wasn't a "great" CPU!  I did keep the Intel plastic backplate on the CPU for this review.  Since I published my "Thermal Compound Deathmatch" article I've decided to use CoolingStore's Arctic Silver thermal compound as my "official thermal compound" until Nevin comes up with something better.     I used the on motherboard sensor to measure the CPU core temp and Asus PC Probe v2.03 to get my temperature readings.  I also have a Radio Shack digital thermometer to measure room and ambient case temps.  To get "load" temperatures I ran RC5 in the background while I played some Quake 3 Arena for 30 minutes and took the reading immediately afterwards.  I repeated this twice and averaged the results for each test scenario."
