Tom Leufken was gracious enough to send us one of his new kit offerings, a complete WaterCooling system! I've dealt with Tom before I took up editing here at The Tech Zone, and he's got quite a good reputation among many in "extreme cooling". Kudos to Tom for sending this our way!

Water cooling. I don't think I have to go into a Physics lesson here. Point of fact, water is a much better conductor of heat than air. The main problem associated with water, is that it conducts something else much better than air too. Electricity! Spilling electrically conductive fluid across your mainboard and it's components therefore is just bad ju-ju!

Water cooling CPU's has gained much popularity especially in the last year, as it's started to emerge from being a "garage project" to one you can buy as a kit, and assemble yourself. The design philosophy and component quality of many of these kits varies, often widely, as does the overall price. In a kit, you need to look at a few key areas.

  1. KISS. Keep it simple, stupid. Stick with what works, is practical, and makes sense.
  2. Forethought. Has the kit adequately addressed the main concerns, notably leaks.
  3. Design. Focus on the elements that really matter, and make sure they work.

With this viewpoint in mind, let's take a look at the Leufken Technologies Water Cooling Kit, and see what it brings to the table.
