Celery 2 "Little Dipper" Kit

Celery 2 "Little Dipper" Kit

"A Heavenly Body with Real Big Punch!"

Conclusion:

This is a killer package!  My opinion about Celerons has definitely changed... Sure, the Pentium 3 beat out the Celeron in some benchmarks, but the "little train that could", the Celeron, edged out the Pentium in its fair share of benchmarks.  If you take into consideration the money you'll save it's a very clear choice.  I unequivocally recommend this package for anyone!  Hardcore enthusiast or normal user alike, this simply kicks ass and takes names.  I can't see where you'd go wrong with this.  I really haven't been excited over a review like I have been over this one.   It's one of those times that really blew my misconceptions out of the water...   Proton has really put together a class act package in the "Little Dipper".  The components are high quality and they perform accordingly.   What more can you ask for?   Ah ha!!!  The clincher!  Here' s quote from their website:

Satisfaction Guaranteed

* If for any reason you are not satisfied with your tested, overclocked purchase from Proton Computers, You can return the product for a full refund within 30 days from delivery. (Shipping charges not refundable.)

Any other questions?  I didn't think so!  So, what are you waiting for?  If you are in the market for this sort of upgrade then I just made that decision easy for you.   Or, even if you're not really thinking about a new CPU then maybe this is reason enough for you to seriously consider it.  Performance, quality and the fact that there's no guesswork is enough to convince me.  What about you?  I really hate for this to sound like a sales pitch, but I love this package.  Really, I do!   Take a moment, hop on over to Proton Computers, and see what they have to offer.  I'm confident that you'll be happy with what you find.  One last question, "Where do YOU want to go today?"  How about smack dab in the middle of 850mhz?

Ratings:

Good:

  • 850mhz!  That should be enough right there!

  • Performance on par with much more expensive Pentium 3

  • Exceptional value to price ratio

  • Easy to install

  • Gotta love the name!

  • How about free shipping if you mention this review and the Tech Zone in the comments section if you decide to order a kit at Proton?  Yep!  For real!

Bad:

  • The heatsink fan MAY interfere with DIMM 1

Rating:  9.5/10

Afterthoughts (Zero's Soapbox):

I've seen in many newsgroups and forums people griping that it's "just not right" to charge someone extra for an pre-tested CPU.  I don't agree with that at all... I want to point out a few things that the resellers won't bring up in casual conversation and what many people don't consider.  First, these people provide a service.  And it's a service that they should be compensated for just like anyone else that provides a professional service.  Over two hours of time go into testing each and every pre-tested CPU to ensure that they are stable for the customer.  If you go to any computer shop and have two hours worth of work done you'll pay a minimum of $50 US per hour and even more for those shops with many "piece of paper qualifications" hanging on the wall.  Next, take into consideration the ratio of overclocking chips compared to the non-performers.  If someone buys a lot of 30 CPU's with no guarantees of overclockability and ends up with only 15 that cut the mustard... Then who eats the other 15 with ketchup?   I really don't believe that the people that provide this service are charging what they should if you take everything into consideration.   Many aren't trying to get rich doing this and the prices are more than fair in my opinion.  I'm sure you'll see it in the same light if you sit and think about it.   Patronize these businesses... They're here for us.  As always... Thanks for taking the time to read my ranting and your emails are encouraged.  You are great readers.... Keep coming back!
