Largan Easy 800 Digital Camera Review

I again used my personal Kodak DC-215 digital camera as a comparison platform. The only snag here is that the Kodak DC215 does not support 1024x768 resolutions, so I downsampled the 1152x864 images to 1024x768 so that things would be as fair as possible in image quality comparison.

All of the pictures in the comparison were taken on the same day and at the same time, switching back and forth between cameras, while I and my family were at the annual Fair. Ok, nuff said...Here we go. Check on the thumbnail to see the full size image.

First, if you're wondering who that was who disappeared in the Kodak image, let's just say my mother doesn't like having her picture taken one little bit! :) Overall here, about what I expected, from my experience with Largan's cameras. The Easy800 is a good bit sharper, while the Kodak DC215 has richer color. No surprises here.

Here, were are in the Interstate Fair exhibit hall. In this setting, the Largan surprisingly did considerably better than the Kodak, with the flash, and indoor lighting.

Here, still in the exhibit hall, I begin to see a tradeoff here. The Largan is a tad brighter, and sharper, but in this lighting situation you begin to see granularity, and moiré patterns.

Here, I did something deliberate. The waterwheel is right next to an extremely bright white fencing. Extreme bright areas such as this, can help indicate any oddities or failings in a camera's handling of "white balance". Here, the Largan overcompensates and ends up with an overall slightly darker image. Again, the "granularity" is more apparent in this setting, compared to the Kodak.

Overall, there are some significant differences in these two cameras. From the last few digital camera articles I've written you should be well versed on the strengths and weaknesses of the Kodak by now, if you have read them. In comparison, the Largan has slightly sharper image quality, but can be a bit too sharp, and show some graininess and jpeg artifacting. Keep in mind that the Kodak is a camera that costs A LOT more than the Largan. Keeping this in mind, the Largan's image quality is extremely good. Nothing really to fault here, with the above considerations.
