Abit motherboards has always been about overclocking and the KT7-RAID is no
exception. To test how stable the motherboard is in an overclock situation I
took a "purple core" 750Mhz AMD T Bird and unlocked it using my trusty .5mm
pencil. Once unlocked I cracked the multiplier up to 10X and let her rip. Here
is the result:
1001Mhz. Has a nice ring to it doesn't it? Not bad for a CPU that can be had
for just $135 (assuming you can find a purple core unit).
The beauty of the KT133 chipset is you can run memory speed independent of
Front Side Bus speed. This is very important as VIA chipset has pretty poor
memory performance. Abit also toss in a bunch of additional memory tweaks like 4
way interleaving to really improve the memory performance. Check out this memory
benchmark.
This is one of the highest memory benchmark I've ever recorded from a VIA
chipset based motherboard. Abit has done a great job with it. The tweaks Abit
added to the KT7's BIOS allowed me to increase memory performance by nearly 40%.
