Introduction

The first thing you notice when you take a look at the new AX6BC Pro motherboard from AOpen is the 24K gold plated heatsink over the BX chipset. While it does look very nice it really doesn't perform any better than a normal heatsink.

Other key features of the AX6BC include:

  • Enhancement of 2200uf low ESR capacitors for overall stability
  • Frequency Isolation Wall deployment for signal integrity
  • CPU Vcore adjustment through BIOS setting
  • Jumper-less design
  • Support  1X/2X AGP  mode
  • CUP Clock ratio from 1.5X to 8.0X

The AOpen AX6BC Pro is a PC-99 spec board. Notice the cool colours on the I/O ports. If you buy a PC-99 mouse the port on the mouse will be the same color as the mouse port. I guess lots of people get the mouse and keyboard port reversed.

With its jumperless design and ability to adjust core voltage, the AX6BC Pro was created as an overclocker's motherboard. And it does a very good job at that. The board supports a nice range of bus speeds to get the most out of your CPU. You can chose from the the following FSB: 66.8, 68.5, 75, 83, 100, 103, 112, 117, 124, 129, 133, 138, 143, 148, and 153Mhz. This is basically the same FSB as the Abit BX6-II. Voltage can be adjusted from 2 to 2.2V, which should be fine. I really don't like running a CPU higher than 2.2V.
