Computer System
Elitegroup Computer Systems, has been developing
products since 1987, and has been a strong player in the PC mainboard market,
although still not exactly a household word among the hardcore crowd. Today, we
take a look at the ECS P6VXA, a VIA Apollo 133a chipset Socket 370 mainboard,
utilizing the VIA 686B Southbridge. A big thanks goes out to Peter Wright at
Elitegroup Computer System
for providing the mainboard for our testing.

The ECS P6VXA is typical of most of your average VIA
Apollo133a boards in layout, with 1 AGP, 5 PCI, 0 ISA (bye bye ISA...glad your
gone), and one AMR (Audio Modem Riser) slot. Like most VIA boards, it includes
AC97' compatible onboard audio (codec courtesy of Realtek), which is adequate,
but uninspiring.
Included with the board are an 80pin IDE cable, for the UDMA-100 interface
provided by the VIA 686B Southbridge, floppy cable, driver CD (which is a
conglomeration effort, covering all of ECS's mainboards..) and a very nice 88
page manual. The manual is well written, and thorough, one of the better manuals
I've seen. The included drivers (VIA 4-in 1, Realtek audio) installed without
event.
