Transcend
Transcend isn't a name bandied about with much enthusiasm in the mainboard
business. Indeed, they've only been in the mainboard production market for a
couple of years. But Transcend HAS been a major memory manufacturer for the last
12 years. And from the the looks of the Transcend TS-ASL3 i815 mainboard they
sent us, it seems they know what they're doing.
Transcend... who? While they have been a significant
player in the memory business for quite some time, Transcend isn't exactly a
household word when it comes to mainboard vendors. Still, Transcends stable of
mainboard products has fleshed out quite well this year, so we here at The Tech
Zone wanted to see what stuff they were made of. As you will see, there is a
lot to like about the TS-ASL3 Intel i815 mainboard they offered us for review.
Included with the board, is a rather nice 61 page manual
(all in English), driver CD (for video, AC97 audio, and i815 chispset support),
extra IDE and floppy cables, and a spare serial header, as the usual second
serial port is displaced by the boards onboard video DB-15 connector. The board
also features an additional USB header connector, to add an additional 2 USB
ports, but the actual connector backplate was not provided in the sample I
received.
