AVB VN-1 Vibration Mouse Review
Problems:
While generally well thought out, the Vmouse does have a few issues, the biggest of which is its reliance on sound input to produce vibrations. This basically translates to all sounds being 'felt' through the mouse, not necessarily something that is the best idea, especially for gaming. The mouse's reliance on sound for vibrations means that it is compatible with pretty much any game that produces sound, something that is definitely a good thing... but something that does water down the experience somewhat. Other than that the fact that the audio pass through cable is fairly short and may give people with USB and audio jacks on opposite sides of their case some problems there really isn't any other issue that this product has.
Conclusion:
I see this product as a bit of a novelty right now, but something that I think we're going to see a whole lot more of in the future. The potential for AVB SoundSensual Technology is really great, especially if specific sounds can be tagged to translate to vibration (i.e. gun sounds producing real recoil at the mouse level). Force feedback has made its way into every other kind of controller, it's about time it hit the mousing front as well.
As it stands right now the Vmouse is fun for single player games, but it really doesn't translate well to multiplayer gaming where aiming and such matter, or to web sites that really don't take advantage of it anyway. I would have tried it out with other games, but really the FPS genre is the only one that relies so heavily on mouse movements. Sure vibrations would be cool for a driving game or flight sim, but who really uses the mouse to control something like that?
Because this mouse won't hit your wallet too hard, and because it's USB and can run in parallel with your normal mouse, this might be something to look at if you're looking for a more immersive and interesting single player experience. And if worst comes to worst you can always crank the intensity dial way down and basically use it as a normal mouse with little or no vibration at all.
