Gateway shows that thin and light is definitely in. While
having a notebook with a big 15.7" screen like the Gateway 9300XL is cool;
having one that you can carry around all day without tiring you out is even
cooler. The Gateway Solo 3350 weighs in at an ultra-light 3.65 pounds, making it
the lightest notebook I've ever tested.
Just because it's small doesn't mean it's missing any
features or power. The Solo 3350 comes armed to the teeth. The unit is powered
by a Pentium III 600 with 64 Megs of RAM. The notebook is also network ready
with its built in 3 COM 10/100 network adapter. The screen is a 12.1" TFT Active
Matrix XGA display with a natural resolution of 1024x768.
Measuring 10.6"X8.8"X1" the Solo 3350 is one of the
smallest and lightest notebook in the 12.1" screen class. As can be seen in the
above photo, it's smaller than the recently reviewed
Acer 341TV, which has the same screen size, and way smaller than the
Gateway Solo 9300 XL.
This is one of the best looking notebooks I've ever seen.
Its blue–metallic design includes a durable magnesium alloy LCD lid for a
notebook that's as strong as it is lightweight and stylish. Gateway makes two
versions of the 3350, the Solo 3350 and the Solo 3350 Deluxe which is $129 more.
What is the difference between the two? The Deluxe comes with MS Office 2000
Small Business and the 3350 doesn't. We tested the non deluxe model.
