Now this is one powerful notebook! The 800Mhz P3 is just as fast as a normal desktop P3-800. The Solo's P3-800 uses speed step technology. This doesn't make the CPU any faster. When doing non CPU intensive stuff like surfing the web, the CPU slows down to save battery power. Not very useful in a desktop, but well worth getting in a notebook.
The Solo 9300XL ripped though the multi-media benchmarks, posting scores that are dead on with a desktop PIII-800.
This was a shocker. I was expecting hard drive performance to be no better than the Acer 341TV. What I got was a score that I would have expected from a desktop. This is amazing hard drive performance for a notebook.
While Gateway equips the Solo 9300 with an 8X DVD player, its performance is closer to that of a 3X unit. This didn't hinder DVD movie playback however. Every movie I tried on it works fine.
