As any overclocker will tell
you, RAM is one of the most important components in an overclocked system.
Without the use of high quality RAM, we will never be able to reach the limit of
our CPU. This is especially important on the Intel side as the only way to
overclock a Pentium or Celeron is by increasing the front side bus speed, which
will also increase the RAM speed.
The OCZ Performance Series RAM
range from Value SDRAM (133Mhz 3/3/3) to ultra high performance PC2100 CL2.5 DDR
SDRAM. For this review we take a look at the Performance Plus (150Mhz CAS 2) and
the Performance Max (175Mhz CAS 3).

The Performance Plus is
available in128 and 256 megabyte 168pin DIMM modules. These modules are tested
and approved for both AMD and Intel Chipsets and are tested for 150mhz operation
with 2/3/2 timing. The limited quantities Performance MAX is available in 128
megabyte 168pin DIMM modules. Just like the Performance Plus, the Max is tested
and approved for both AMD and Intel Chipsets and are tested for 175mhz operation
with 3/3/3 timing.
OCZ Performance Series RAM is really nothing more than hand picked memory.
The RAM are supplied by three main sources, Micron Technologies , Infineon and
Kingston. The memory is then tested at different speeds and all the good ones
are cherry picked and made available for sale. Both of the OCZ RAM sticks we got
for review were made from Micron, a well known maker of high quality RAM.
