Introduction:

I’ve seen a lot of questions in our forums and in the overclocking newsgroups asking, “What’s the best thermal compound to use?”  That’s not always that easy to answer.  Although we all know that using a thermal compound of some sort is absolutely essential for proper heat dissipation in PC applications.

There are many varying opinions regarding “what’s the best” based on what people have personally used.  I plan on dispelling many myths out there by putting many popular interface materials head-to-head.  Whether it’s used between your CPU and heatsink or on your graphics chipset and unless you are an engineer or have done a great deal of homework, the decisions are virtually endless.

If you’re anything like me you may have asked yourself, “Which paste should I buy?”, “Where do I get it from?”, and “What makes the $15 paste better than $2 paste?”    I’m going to take a stab at skimming down the choices to something that will make your decision a bit easier to digest.  Now, I’m not telling you that this is an all-inclusive list of thermal compounds.  I simply would never be able to finish something of that magnitude.  Nonetheless, I did make an effort to include at least one compound from every conceivable price range and category.

I’d like to call this the “Mother of All Thermal Compound Reviews.”  But, you make that decision for yourself!   One more thing…  I usually try to stay witty with my articles and reviews.  For some reason, being as witty as I normally am with thermal compound has evaded me.   With that said… Let’s jump in, strap in, and hold on!  We’re going for a little ride…
