Altec Lansing ATP3 PC Speaker Review

The sound card I used for testing was the Diamond MX300.  For sound quality tests I used two formats, Games and DVD movies.   The games that I tested the sound quality on were: Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament.  In Quake 3 Arena, these speakers took it to a whole new level.  Unlike most speakers that have both full and mid range frequencies (in some cases bass as well) coming from one speaker, the ATP3 breaks these signals up and places them into the proper speaker.  Due to the fore mentioned process, you get a fuller mix of sound, and because of it you hear every footstep and gunfire.  This only adds to the enjoyment of the game and not to mention adds to your skill.  Unreal Tournament it’s simply unreal.  When I tested this game out, I had the subwoofer on my desk and due to the down firing process of the speaker; I swear my desk shook when I fired the redeemer.

For DVD movies I test the following: The Matrix, Double Jeopardy and Donna Summer: Live and More Encore! (I grew up listening to her, love her!).   In The Matrix Bass frequencies were more present, this is due to the number of fight and explosion scenes they have.  Double Jeopardy sounded great, since the movie has a broader range of sounds; it provided a good test for the ATP3.  The ATP3s were really humming in this movie, sound re-creation was great, I never heard distortion of any kind; watching the movie was like being in a movie theater.  Donna Summer: Live and More Encore! Sounded awesome, sound re-production was flawless; every drumbeat was heard, and Donna Summer’s vocals were clear.

In today’s world of great quality for an inexpensive price, Altec Lansing answered that call in the ATP3 speaker system.  Sound reproduction was clear and full.  If your an avid gamer you will enjoy the full array of sound reproduction that the ATP3 produces; this only adds to your gaming abilities.  If your looking to play movies or even mp3’s with your computer, you’ll enjoy the great stereo sound that the ATP3 creates.  For only a price tag of $99 how can you go wrong in ATP3 computer speaker system?
