S4 MidiLand 8200 Speaker Review

The S4 MidiLand 8200 also enhanced DVD playback. And with the help of the ADS-2000, you won't be missing any sound effects. The ADS-2000 allows you to control individual channel volume, amount of delay to the center and surround speakers, number of speakers to use, bass management, testing, and a host of other stuff. There is even a S/PDIF input if your sound card has this feature. Check our review of the ADS-2000 for the full deal on this kick ass decoder.
The S4 MidiLand 8200 is one of the few speakers we've come across that plays well with both games and music. The sound is nice and clear and free of mid range coloration that plague many computer speakers. The satellite speakers are some of the best full range transducers we've ever heard. It easily beats the Creative DDT-2500 in both clarity and volume.
The sub woofer can really pump out the bass and reach wall shaking volume. Bass was deep and tight and even though it's a port enclosure, it managed to avoid the "one note bass" so common in these type of enclosure setups.
The gripes are few and far between. The only thing we would like to see is having the ADS-2000 redesigned so it would fit into a 5.25" drive bay. As it stands now, it just sits on top of the computer or the desk. Another thing we like to see are speaker stands or maybe a redesign of the satellites so they are angled up at ear level. Single point transducers are very directional and needs to be angle at the ears for best effects.
Overall, the S4 MidiLand 8200 is the best speaker system we've ever come across. It's been a long time coming but finally we have a speaker system to replace the aging Cambridge SoundWorks. At $399.95, the S4 MidiLand 8200 is far from cheap but for the amount of features you get, it's a bargain. You can find them online for as low as $270 and at that price, it's a steal.
