If the price of the Monsoon MM-700 doesn't grab you, the sound surely will. For $109 (after a $40 mail in rebate) this is by far the biggest bang for the buck computer speaker system I've ever heard. The MM-700 is smack in the middle of a three speaker line up from Monsoon Power. Costing $25 more than the low end MH-500 and a good $90 less than the top of the line MM-1000, the MM-700 offers incredible sound and incredible value.

The system controls are located on the sub enclosure and a volume puck. The sub enclosure allows you to adjust the level of bass you want in your game/music. The volume puck has a mute button and a volume control. That's it. There are no other adjustments, nor do you really need any.

Even though Monsoon calls these dipole-radiating satellite planar magnetic speakers, they should not be mistaken for true dipole speakers. The satellite speakers are really nothing more than planar tweeters, which looks very much like ribbon tweeters. The satellite are mounted on a metal stand that angles them up at the ears for better sound effects. Each satellite speaker receives 11 watts of power from the amp built into the sub enclosure. The sub woofer gets 22 watts of power.

The sub woofer in the MM-700 is a 5.25" driver housed in a 6.9 liter ported enclose that is tuned to 65Hz. With the sub cross over set at 250Hz, most audiophiles would consider it more of a mid bass driver than a sub woofer. However it does the job it's intended to do. The MM-700 is available in any color you like as long as it's black.
