Introduction
No, you are NOT
seeing double....That is two PIII 700's idling along at 1001mhz! (pauses briefly
to let reader pick jaw up off floor). Ok, want to learn more? Gen-X-Tech &
Overclockwarehouse have graced us with yet another bundle to review.
Dual CPU systems are not for everybody, but for those
with a pressing need (servers, high end CAD, 3D graphics work) a Single CPU
system just won't cut it. Unfortunately for the overclocker, making a choice of
motherboards in a Dual CPU setting is a good bit more challenging than for
single CPU's.
The venerable Abit BP6 was a popular choice for ages,
being a board geared towards the overclocker. Unfortunately, the BP6 doesn't
directly support FCPGA chips. Among many of the other manufacturers of dual CPU
mainboards, there just aren't that many great choices for the overclocker (Abit's
new FCPGA VP6 is near launch, and reviews should start pouring in soon, but it's
not shipping yet). Most dual CPU boards are designed for Slot1, and while
slockets will work for adapting the FCPGA Celeron2's and PIII's, their layouts
limit heatsink size. Also most dual CPU boards are thin to nonexistent on
overclocking options (FSB speed tweaks, CPU core voltage tweaks).
Gen-X-Tech, and their sister site, Overclockwarehouse
have come up with a reasonably bullet-proof solution for a dual CPU setup. A
*BIG* thanks to Dave @ Gen-X-Tech for supplying us with the bundle to review!
