Asus V6600 Pure Review

Image093.jpg (56148 bytes)

For the person who just want speed and great visual quality without all that fancy TV stuff, the Asus V6600 PURE is as good as it gets. The V6600 PURE is the essence of a pure one purpose video card.

Given a choice between the PURE and the Deluxe, I would pay the extra $75 to get a Deluxe because I think the TV out, Video In and 3D glasses option is worth more than that. However if you have no interest in those toys, then I can highly recommend you put the V6600 PURE on the short video card list.

Overall, I like this card. It's really really fast. Quake 3 has never looked better or run faster. The visual quality is right up there with the best of the best. Since getting these GeForce cards, I've started playing Quake 3 at 1280 x 1024. The frame rate is still very good (over 60fps at 16 bit color) and it's great to rail someone from a great distance without having to zoom in on them. :)

Just remember, if you plan to get a V6600 PURE, make sure you get the unit with the 5ns SGRAM and not the slower 5.5ns unit. Either unit is fast, but we all like to go faster. Having 5ns RAM just makes sure you do.

The Goods

  • Really fast

  • Very overclockable

  • Our unit use 5ns SGRAM

  • Great game bundle

The Bads

  • Some units use slower 5.5ns SDRAM

Our Rating: 8.5/10
