Creative Annihilator 2 Review

P6280032.JPG (27814 bytes)

To overclock the Annihilator 2, I used Powerstrip by EnTech (available at the download page). Powerstrip allows you to overclock the Gladiac as high as 250Mhz core and 450Mhz memory. To help keep the card cool, I attached The Card Cooler to it. The Card Cooler is a really nice product. Not only does it help keep the Annihilator 2 running nice and cool, it cools down all my PCI devices too.

With the help of the card cooler, I was able to   overclock the Annihilator 2 all the way to 235Mhz core and 375Mhz memory. I was hoping for more than that because I've seen AnandTech managed to get their Annihilator 2 all the way to 250Mhz core and 395Mhz memory. My unit was not so lucky. I'm sure if I add in some AMK RAM sinks and the news AMK Core sink (look for a review soon) I can get the speed higher.

Overclocking the Annihilator 2 doesn't  improve speed below 1024x768. It's only when you move up to 1600x1200 that you will see a difference. You really can't complain about 70+ frames per second. :) Overclocking the card also helps when you step up to 32 bit color.
