Elsa Gladiac GeForce GTS Review

To overclock the Gladiac, I used Powerstrip by EnTech (available at the download page). Powerstrip allows you to overclock the Gladiac as high as 250Mhz core and 400Mhz memory. To help keep the card cool, I added a new Global Win card cooler to it. The Global Win card cooler is made up of two YS Tech fans. Together they blow over 50 cubic feet of air per minute over the video card.

With the help of the Global Win card cooler, I was able to overclock the Gladiac  to 235Mhz core and 375Mhz memory. I'm sure I can get higher if I were to add a Mellenger Video Card Cooling Kit to it. I was able to get the memory all the way to 400Mhz but there were lots of artifacts. Core speed was stable up to 240Mhz but artifacts would show up. Here is how the overclocked Gladiac did against an overclocked V6800 running at 155Mhz core and 350Mhz memory.

Overclocked Benchmark Scores

Benchmark Type V6800 155/350 Gladiac 200/333 Gladiac 235/375
Quake 2 Demo1 800x600 231.3 233.8 235.5

Quake 2 Demo 1 1600x1200 73.7 108.2 125.5
Quake Crusher Demo 800x600 133.8 143.4 137.2
Quake Crusher Demo 1024x768 125.7 140.0 140.9
Quake Crusher Demo 1600x1200 61.5 80.5 90.5

Quake 3 Dem0002 800x600 122.9 115.0 115.6
Quake 3 Dem0002 1024x768 110.2 112.0 113.2
Quake 3 Dem0002 1600x1200 49.7 62.7 72.4
Unreal Timedemo 800x600 68.9 71.9 72.9
Unreal Timedemo 1024x768 66.6 69.5 69.8
Unreal Timedemo 1600x1200 48.9 53.0 56.9
3D Mark 2000 5342 5357 5828

An overclocked GeForce 256 does very well against the the Gladiac. The V6800 was able to keep up with Gladiac at the lower resolutions. Only when the resolution heads into the upper end does the V6800 lose steam.

Overclock Benchmark 16 bit Vs 32 bit

Benchmark Type 16 bit 32 bit
Quake 3 Dem0001 800x600 115.1 112.4
Quake 3 Dem0001 1024x768 112.3 93.6
Quake 3 Dem0001 1600x1200 70.4 37.9
Quake 3 Dem0002 800x600 115.6 114.1
Quake 3 Dem0002 1024x768 113.2 96.4
Quake 3 Dem0002 1600x1200 72.4 39.3

Once again, we see the huge drop in frame rate at 1600x1200 when going from 16 bit to 32 bit color.
