The Tech Zone has reviewed a lot of TNT2
cards. It's no secret that I like them. They're my number one choice for all The
Tech Zone projects. And can you really blame me? The TNT2 is fast, great visual
quality and most important, nothing runs Quake 3 better. What else can you ask
for? How about a lower price, a great software bundle and TV out?
Those features are just what you get with the
Maxi Gamer Xentor 32 from Guillemot. This video card has it all; TNT2 Ultra
chipset running at a blistering 175Mhz, 32 megs of SDRAM running at 183Mhz, TV
out, a great game bundle and a price of just $199.99 after a $30 mail in rebate.
With Hercules about to pack it in, the Maxi
Gamer Xentor 32 is the fastest TNT2 Ultra card you can buy. It is also the most
feature packed. I can't think of another TNT2 Ultra card that combines all the
features of the Xentor 32 in such a nice package.
The likes are many and the complaints are
few. As a matter fact, my biggest problem with the card is the PCB is too big
for me to get a zip tie around the card to attach the big Global Win cooler on
it for the overclocking test. I had to use Frag Tape instead.
Guillemot employs over 250 people worldwide, with
marketing subsidiaries in France, Belgium, Holland, England, Germany,
Switzerland, Spain, Canada, USA and Hong Kong. Their products are sold in 32
countries that span five continents. With sales of over $70 million, it seems
pretty safe that they will be around for a while, unlike Hercules.
So, is the Maxi Gamer Xentor 32 the best TNT2 Ultra card
I've ever tested? Let's find out.
